May is speech and hearing month! Join us as we share information about hearing loss and address hearing health. Do you have questions about when hearing devices are needed or what type of device is best? Dr. Andrea Wagner from Advance Hearing Care, downtown Bartlesville, will offer more information about hearing health including: how normal hearing works the different types of hearing loss an explanation of over-the-counter hearing aids vs prescription hearing aide and when to consider amplification/hearing aids/cognitive implications Elder Care's speech pathologist, Abigayl Petermann, MS CCC-SLP, rounds out the seminar by highlighting speech therapy and its benefits. Go Travel: A Day of Inspiration Tulsa Day Trip
Colorful and delicate glass sculptures adorn the walls and shelves at the Tulsa Glassblowing School. A two-hour glass-blowing class offers an opportunity to create something unique and special. Or watch the creative process as the glassblowers work. Instructors teach how to use basic tools to create and kiln-fire simple forms, such as ornaments and paperweights. You will carry home your beautiful, created memento from your glassblowing session. Lunch on the river and later explore some famous glass-blowing artist creations like Dale Chihuly. The Good, The Bad, The BBQ
Elder Care Announces Annual Fundraising Event On May 13, 2023, Elder Care will celebrate its 25th The Good, The Bad, & The BBQ fundraiser to benefit programs and services at Elder Care. Location: Hughes Ranch, just minutes from downtown Bartlesville on Highway 123. The outdoor fundraiser will be held under a large party tent and includes a BBQ dinner, music and dancing, and live and silent auctions. A cash bar will be available. The live and silent auctions feature travel packages, unique jewelry pieces, private parties, tickets to sporting events, one-of-a-kind artwork, and many more items. Tickets go on sale March 1 and may be purchased online at AboutElderCare.org/BBQ or by calling Elder Care at (918) 336-8500. Individual event tickets are $100 each or $1,000 for a reserved table of 8. Guests must pre-register by May 1, 2023. The Good, The Bad, & The BBQ benefits Elder Care programs and raises awareness of services affecting aging adults who desire to remain healthy and independent as they age. Event funds raised will directly impact program costs for seniors and their support systems. Elder Care is the area’s leading non-profit provider of services for seniors and their caregivers. Services include care management, in-home care, an adult day health activity center, caregiver support, a specialized health clinic, and outpatient therapy. Elder Care primarily serves adults over 60 living in Washington, Nowata, and Osage counties. Some services are available for adults of any age. Alzheimer’s Association Presents: Living With Alzheimer’s for Younger-onset Alzheimer’s”
Jacob Guinan of the Alzheimer’s Association will present information to help individuals and families recognize symptoms at any age, especially at 55-65 years of age; and guide them toward proper resources. When someone under 65 is diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, the first reaction is often shock or denial. In this seminar, you’ll hear from those directly affected to learn how to plan and what you can do to ease the impact throughout the course of the disease. No cost to attend. Open to adults of any age. RSVP by May 9 to Elder Care.
